Power quality

Active harmonic filters, SVG active reactive power compensation and solutions for voltage sags, with measurement and analysis to EN 50160.

Harmonic distortion, reactive energy, unbalance and voltage sags have a direct impact on downtime, losses and equipment service life. Over the past 7 years we have carried out a number of power quality measurements in Croatian industry and delivered dozens of active compensation systems.

Phenomena we measure and resolve

Each phenomenon has its own metric, a limit set by the standard and a solution from our product range. Select a segment of the wheel.

Harmonics Reactive energy Unbalance Voltage sags Overvoltages Flicker Supraharmonics Voltage and freq. MEASURE DESIGN RESOLVE MONITOR PhaQtor THD % Harmonic distortion

Phenomenon 1 / 8

Harmonic distortion

Overheating of transformers and cables, protection tripping, failures of capacitors and electronics.

Causes
Frequency converters, rectifiers, LED lighting, IT equipment and chargers.
We measure
THDu and THDi, individual harmonics up to the 50th order.
Standard
EN 50160: THDu ≤ 8 %.

Phenomenon 2 / 8

Reactive energy

Charges for excess reactive energy, grid connection and transformer capacity tied up, higher losses.

Causes
Motors, transformers, inductive and capacitive loads.
We measure
cos φ, power factor (PF), reactive power Q [kvar].
Standard
Grid operator requirements: cos φ ≥ 0.95.

Phenomenon 3 / 8

Phase unbalance

Motor overheating, current in the neutral conductor, reduced usable capacity.

Causes
Single-phase loads and unevenly distributed consumption.
We measure
Voltage and current unbalance, neutral conductor current.
Standard
EN 50160: voltage unbalance ≤ 2 %.

Phenomenon 4 / 8

Voltage sags and interruptions

Production stoppages, tripping of drives and control systems.

Causes
Faults and switching operations in the grid, starting of large motors.
We measure
Depth (% Un) and duration of each event.
Standard
EN 50160: sag below 90 % Un, 10 ms to 1 min.

Phenomenon 5 / 8

Overvoltages and transients

Damage to electronics, unexplained failures and control system resets.

Causes
Lightning strikes, switching of loads and capacitor banks.
We measure
Peak values and fast transients.
Standard
IEC 61000-4-4 and 61000-4-5 (equipment immunity).
Solution
SineTamer

Phenomenon 6 / 8

Flicker

Visible lighting flicker and unsteady operation of sensitive processes.

Causes
Electric arc furnaces, welding, frequent switching-on of large loads.
We measure
Short-term and long-term flicker severity indices Pst and Plt.
Standard
EN 50160: Plt ≤ 1.

Phenomenon 7 / 8

Supraharmonics

Interference with control and communication, overheating of capacitors and filters.

Causes
Converters with high switching frequencies, EV chargers, PV inverters.
We measure
Emissions in the 2–150 kHz range.
Standard
IEC 61000: 2–150 kHz range.

Phenomenon 8 / 8

Voltage and frequency

Unstable operation of drives, protection devices and generator sets; shortened equipment life.

Causes
Grid loading, island operation, generator sets and renewable sources.
We measure
Frequency [Hz] and voltage deviation from the nominal value.
Standard
EN 50160: 50 Hz ± 1 %, voltage ± 10 % Un.
Cycle: measure → design → resolve → monitor
  • 01ΔUÛTHDu

    Reliable power supply

Less unplanned downtime: sags, overvoltages and harmonics are detected and eliminated before they stop production.

  • 02cos φTHDikVA

    More capacity

Reactive power and harmonic compensation relieves transformers and cables and frees up capacity on the existing grid connection.

  • 03kvarhkWhΔP

    Lower costs

Lower losses, no charges for excess reactive energy, and longer service life of motors, drives and capacitors.
